The Ice Realm: Great Snow Mandrill

In the extreme South of the Cult Realms lies an arctic desert known as the Ice Realm. A mysterious barrier separates this area from the Sand Realm, whose respective center is made up of huge swaths of obsidian and cracked by open veins of lava. The barrier is thought to be the extremity of the Ice Realm Düthyr’s psychic influence on its environment, as the temperature shifts from -100°F to over 100°F within the space of a few inches and it can be traced in a perfect circle within which the Ice Realm exists. The Düthyr is The Great Snowy Mandrill who resides in a huge ice cave at the foot of a snow-covered, black obsidian mountain. It emerges once per day and sits in the mouth of its cave, observing the wind-thrashed landscape in a state of stoic meditation. The lava veins that originate in the Sand Realm extend into the Ice Realm, cutting through the snowy terrain and branching out into complex systems of boiling rivers and streams that flow toward and surround the Snowy Mandrill’s cave. The inhabitants of the Ice Realm are robust and pragmatic, living in compact villages along the warm banks of the lava veins. Their primary vocation is hunting the wild snowbound creatures of the realm for food and harvesting luxurious furs and oils. The relationship between these inhabitants and their Düthyr is among the most unique, as the Snowy Mandrill often leaves its cave and travels to various villages to sit with the locals and observe their activities. The Ice Realm people similarly view the Mandrill as a respected peer. The safety they enjoy from outside infiltrators due to the harsh conditions in which they live is never overlooked, and the Ice Realm people are fully aware of and thankful for The Snowy Mandrill’s influence on their environment.
